Several small sputs erupting <1ft high between Incline and the base of the hill. Incline's pool remains a swampy green color. Water level drop has uncovered alot of spouters in the Porcelain Springs, with some reaching 15-20 feet high. One of them periodically producing a LOUD chugging audible from the museum, but I can't see which one it is. Sinkhole to the NE of Swiss Cheese Pool remains empty and is acting as a runoff drain. |

NGB: Increased cyclic activity from three holes up slope NNE from Incline G, just below the two grindstone looking mounds, with heavy forced splashes then a roar of steam, then quiet, repeated in waves. This appears to be very nearly in the same location as the blowout which occurred in Sept 1971 and will do some photo comparisons. Will keep an eye on it! - - -
Visible water also is pulsing out below the thick sinter at the base of the slope below the old roadway E of the Incline location. Farther south cool groundwater from the over full Nuphar area also continues to flow at a steady rate into the basin but the green algae growths are diminishing. - - -
Cross referencing this as an Incline Note since finding things in Other Geyser is not always simple if you don't remember the year. |

9/11 Incline is very active with eruptions apparently every 20 min. or so. Most eruptions go 50+ feet, well to the top of the hill beyond the boardwalk (on the old roadbed) It’s a beautiful cascading arc gradually building in height and power for a minute or so, then rapidly diminishing to nothing. The water swirls through the silica rushway its building around the crater and rushes into the crater (it looks like a drinking fountain!) Superb! More intervals tomorrow, I hope. 1921 d~= 70 sec. 7/3/1985 Each eruption was very short-lasting 15 to 30 seconds only. Since the eruption vent is still under the overlying rock so when it spouts the water is forced to the sides – some of the water comes up thru the nearby cracks to maybe 1 to 2 feet high. Most of the water though is shot across the blowout hole maybe 4 to 5 feet or so. You can see the water starting to erupt under the rock – 5 seconds or so before it comes up above the rock. |

02/11/1984 Each eruption was a steamy heavy spray emerging from under the northeast ledge or rim which was ejected horizontally to the south for a distance of approximately 5 meters.
A barely perceptible rise in water level of less than 5 cm with an increase in horizontal flow of superheated bubbles across the pools surface form the northeast rim was the only sign that the next play was imminent. Mid interval activity was continuous splashing 0.4-1.2m from the central east portion of the cloudy dark blue gray pool. |

8/22/1983 Blowout - The geyser constantly splashed from an empty pool until often before an eruption a noticeable build up of steam occurred. The normal splashing stopped soon after that and the pool began to fill rapidly from a long crack in the side of the crater, sort of like a waterfall. When the pool filled an eruption began from the crack with water being thrown violently out to the side and splashed out a few feet.
After the eruption normal, but higher, upright splashing started again from the full pool and lessened in height to normal as the pool drained. |

At this time it was continually spouting with bursts coming out at a sharp angle.
1408:15 – spouting stopped and “draining” sound was heard
1408:23 – a loud jet of steam came out
1409:30 – steam stopped and the pool filled to the top.
1409:51 – a “major” eruption began – the water erupted straight up higher than the normal spouting
1411- normal spouting began- no pause at the end of the major (blended together)
Majors like the one described except there was no jet of steam (pool filled)

Rick Hutchinson and I (Cheryl B) quickly came to see the new addition. At the time of the discovery it was erupting every 20-29 minutes (average of 24 minutes) & about 20 feet high. The amount of discharge was estimated at 3-4 gallons per second.
It was like a wave on the beach. The discharge flows into a large depression that is ~2 yrs old right at the base of the hill. Fine new addition to the geysers there in Porc.
A week later I was checking the new geyser & the changes were very noticeable. The interval had shortened & the crater more than doubled in size. Previously it was ~2’ in diameter but now it was crescent shaped & about 6-7’ long. The “dark part of the moon” was undermined & falling in. The area doesn’t look very stable at all. |
