Comments: | Three New Zealand hot springs have been added to the database. Frying Pan Lake is the largest hot spring by surface area and is located in the Waimangu Volcanic Valley. Changes in Frying Pan Lake are somewhat coupled to the cycle of Inferno Crater Lake to the northeast. The water level in Inferno Crater cycles by ~10 meters every 25–50 days (Vandemeulebrouck et al. 2008, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jvolgeores.2008.06.021). Champagne Pool is a large, colorful hot spring located in Waiotapu; the name is derived from bubbling activity due to high carbon dioxide flux through the spring. |
