Note: | Stronger activity than yesterday. Many strong verticals out of North Vent, and frequent sustained verticals out of SV. Lots of strong runoff. Energy peak around noontime brought several very strong minors at 1005 (WooHoo), 1059 (WooHoo), 1155 (WooHoo), 1211 (WooHoo), 1337 (Start Screaming), 1404 (Start Screaming), and a heart stopping minor (ironically near the end of ranger Marc's talk) at 1415 that could have easily triggered a full eruption. The gazers who had seen it before were surprised it didn't start right then and there. Energy peak ended shortly after that. Runoff channel very white, including some of the South Vent catch basin. To the best of my knowledge, Tom Carberry never noticed a particularly strong sulfur smell over at Decker Island while I was there. No eruption by 1620 when I had to pull myself away to go home, but by everything I can tell, it seems ready. |
