| Note: | I'm reasonably certain, even accounting for drastic changes in behavior, that there was not a Steamboat major overnight. Cistern in strong overflow w/ light boiling at 0930 - same as yesterday. "Normal" minor eruptive activity had resumed in both N. & S. vents by 0930. N. vent eruptions strengthened gradually in duration and volume throughout the day, but remained in the 10-40' (length) or 10-30' (height) range all day. N. actually seemed to have more vertical surges earlier in the day than later. S. stayed in a 6'-15' range most of the day, but was largely obscured by steam after a wind change at noon. Minors were weak, constant, and hard to differentiate prior to that, but of the minors logged from 930-1200 my best guess would be: 13/25 N. start, 8/25 concerted, and 4/25 S. start. Runoff (as seen from the lower bridge over the channel) eventually covered the center of the last rock section before the bottom. The left channel and the right side of the rock remained dry. The small feature just S. of S. vent on the other side of its runoff channel was in constant steam with occasional weak spitting of water. "Restrooms cleaned & Bulbs replaced." |
