Note: | 10/16/1964
Steamboat, 17 days after major eruption, is active but not promising. Due to inclement weather, no half-hour checks were kept but it was observed frequently. The plays from the south vent were powerful & frequent with much water going up vertically to 40 feet. The north vent was quiet with only very minor activity. Almost steady runoff was produced in main channel.
The interval between plays are quiet – there is no splashing or surging as there so often has been. The water level in the north vent is still down below the ledge – at least 10 feet. |
