Note: | From the Icelandic Met Office (Veðurstofan): "On Saturday (oct. 19) there was an unusual increase in hot springs [sic] in the Geysir geothermal area. Most hot springs are now more powerful than before. No changes have been detected to explain this activity. The Met office will continue to monitor and attempts will be made to understand underlying reasons for this increased activity. The Met office recommends that visitors pay attention to possible dangers and keep a safe distance from the hot springs and hot waters." (October 24 addition) From the Icelandic Environment Agency: "Park Rangers at Geysir noticed increased activity in the geothermal area over the weekend. Óþerrishola, Smiður, Fata, Konungshver, Blesi, along with other hot springs, have been boiling vigorously and/or erupting in small bursts. This is highly unusual as these hot springs are usually inactive, let alone all at the same time. The water level in Blesi has dropped by approximately 40-50 cm, and by 20-30 cm in Konungshver." |
