Note:NOTE no dates or times noted - generic end of month here: ECHINUS GEYSER: This has been the most regular of the four large geysers in this basin. It has been erupting to a height of from 10 to 20 feet every hour and a quarter during the season. The water is of a greenish cast, even a bottle of water gives a slight greenish colour when viewed against a white paper. This geyser is of the fountain type and it characterized by huge bursts of water which take the shape of umbrella-like formations, and rockets of water break through this cover reaching far above the main column of water. Perhaps the most spectacular feature of this geyser in eruption are the tremendous waves of water that it sends out from the center. They have made a wave-out-bank of over 18 inches high around the surrounding amphitheatre to the north, east and south of the geyser crater. Also the continued action of this geyser during the season has eroded much of the echinus like formations off of the sinter upon which they were being deposited. In some areas the maroon deposit so common around this geyser has been cut down to bare white sinter underneath, even exposing pine needles and logs long buried in this formation. The Echinus usually plays for 5 minutes, although eruptions of 3 ½ and 7 have been recorded. 86 blasts in 3 ½ minutes was the finest eruption.
