Note: | 31 May 1964 11:00 AM Steamboat fully restarted with water, probably early morning sometime (Approx 5:00 am) Water level in West vent 6 feet from rock.
Effects of Erosion: Fallen log which was resting on high ground horizontally was tilted, as high ground washed away from one end of log. {Sketch}
Tree roots in mid air now.
A pocket of clay 50’ below the vent was almost entirely washed away. Out of 6 stakes placed at various locations on the hillside north only two (2) were recovered. One on the flat showed erosion of ½ inch. The other had received some depositions. The other 4 were placed at the heads of the drainage channels 1 foot in back of the last erosion. None of these were recovered, so erosion cut back in at least 1 foot and possibly more. |
