Note: | October 5 1982 - 3 days obs included here - no times noted 5th - Steamboat – The last 2 days Steamboat had long (3-4 min) pauses between minor eruptions, but when it did splash, they were rather big. October 3 I saw a huge blast from both vents at 1139 at least ~80 feet from the north vent and slightly smaller from the south.
October 4 I saw one good blast at 1513, but not of the eruptions seemed as powerful as the day before. -
Today, Steamboat’s minors are even less impressive. On most minors water seems scarce. Though coming out with force, mostly fine spray is ejected. The south vent seems to have more water than the north vent. Some runoff, but slight. It’s interesting to note that coinciding with Steamboat’s lull in activity, Echinus is having minor eruptions. Bill P and Tomas V observed this behavior on two occasions before the eruption of Sept 6. |
