While I was giving a back basin tour I discovered Steamboat in steam phase. Cistern Spring water level was down ~8’. The runoff channels were cut through all the snow, leaving logs, gravel & rocks all over the trail. From the weakness of the steam phase and the level of Cistern Spring, Rick Hutchinson and I decided that it probably erupted sometimes mid to late in the day on the 12th. The interval was 30 days. Maybe we’re going to see another surge of activity like in the 60’s. Pretty exciting times! |
