37876 31 Oct 2024 @ 1600 --- SantaFe108 Sinkhole in Porcelain Springs 3 feet below rim.
37845 29 Oct 2024 @ 1727 --- MAB NGB: Black Pit developed a noisy steam vent like about halfway down the north (Steamboat side) and looks like a half circle or crescent. If it's only new-to-me it might have lost water since 27th to become so incessantly noisy. Edit: photos show it is there 27th but but not in high pressure steam.
37781 27 Oct 2024 @ 1140 --- Janet Jones Bubbles rising in Exclamation Point - I need to check photos, but it looks like fewer microbes there as well as slightly higher water levels.
37749 24 Oct 2024 @ 1617 --- DanS Pair of Tantalus creek perpetual spouters downstream from NBB Vixen bridge are very active and energetic. Smaller sputs on opposite side of creek also vigorously boiling.
37718 24 Oct 2024 @ 1232 --- SantaFe108 Tree Island Geyser NGB: Not ie, lightly steaming.
37706 24 Oct 2024 @ 1146 --- SantaFe108 Primrose Springs NGB: 2 small spouters ie, sinkhole 2ft below rim!
37707 24 Oct 2024 @ 1146 --- SantaFe108 Lava Pool NGB: ~6in below rim. Lava Pool Spouter jetting steam.
37674 22 Oct 2024 @ 0841 --- MAB I never do Notes on NGB Butterfly but saw actual bloops! still covered with foamy stuff as previously seen
37503 10 Oct 2024 @ 1305 --- SantaFe108 Tree Island Geyser: Not ie, lightly steaming. Vent ~50 yards to the right, from the Constant bench, erupting a pulsating jet slightly angled to ~8ft tall.
37462 09 Oct 2024 @ 1333 --- steve In the UNNG-GHG-3 area the eruptive activity has moved from the northern vents to three vents in the middle and southern part of the group.
37445 08 Oct 2024 @ 1641 --- steve Percolating Spring is about 2 feet below overflow and the vent on the West side of the pool (closest to the boardwalk) is perpetual. Oil Slick Pool is a little less than half full. Perforated Pool still has no water. Ephedra Pool and Blue Funnel have a little water too.
37391 03 Oct 2024 @ 1100 --- SantaFe108 Tree Island Geyser not ie, but periodic heavy steaming throughout the morning.
37353 03 Oct 2024 @ 1017 --- SantaFe108 Primrose Springs: 1 spouter towards the back erupting 2 ft, sinkhole is full of milky blue water.
37256 29 Sep 2024 @ 1000 --- TSBryan NBK-10 "Sputtering Tantalus Trio" probably accounted for steamy spots within Tantalus Creek.
37249 29 Sep 2024 @ 0935 --- TSBryan Hydroplane Springs- central area on probable Geyser active per steam clouds
37242 29 Sep 2024 @ 0904 --- TSBryan Black Pit with vigorous bubbling putting down a small overflow stream
37296 25 Sep 2024 @ 1041 --- Siegmund Biscuit Basin Geyser or something near it: bulging domes to ~1 meter height, ending 1042. No visible runoff. I don't know all the holes in the Old Road Group, but this was one of the northernmost in the Baby Daisy / Biscuit Basin Geyser area, and in a place where I don't recall seeing anything splash in a very long time. I have a photo taken from the highway if anyone can identify the vent from that.
37077 19 Sep 2024 @ 1432 19 Sep 2024 @ 1448 Micah Kipple "Persistent Spring" is spouting 3-5 inches from the lefthand side. But what caught our attention is the fact that it is having clear slowdowns/almost pauses complete with a slight drop in water level. At the end of the pause the spouting grows more vigorous 6-8 inches high and the frying pans on the right side also get more vigorous. Very much displays the charactistics of a geyser!
37075 19 Sep 2024 @ 0831 --- Micah Kipple Orange Spring is way down and exposing it's floor of orange bacteria. No activity seen from Pulsar Spouter or "Concussion"
37053 18 Sep 2024 @ 1740 18 Sep 2024 @ 1751 Micah Kipple Clearwater Springs: Most pools just sizzling with gas. Immediately across the creek from the farthest west corner of the observation platform is a pool that looks like it could definitely do more if it wanted. The most interesting thing is that the largest alcove across the creek, with the feature hidden from view has periodic splashing noises, with definite pauses. The discharge entering the creek from the feature is clear water. So it could potentially be a geyser. Other visitors also confirmed they were hearing pauses with me.
36863 09 Sep 2024 @ 0857 --- JarnoO (wc) South of Coronet seen blipping. Of note is that it began blipping shortly after the September 6 eruption. Coupled with CalebD's earlier observation that it was seen blipping after August 12's eruption, this could indicate blipping is part of its post-eruptive behavior. Previously entered as 'Coronet area geyser'; based on comparing September 2023 satellite imagery and the September 6 eruption, it seems to be a long-existing hole about 13 feet south of it, at 44.463496, -110.829684.
36801 06 Sep 2024 @ 1326 --- cb Tree Island Geyser in Porcelain basin is steaming but no visable water.
36798 06 Sep 2024 @ 1317 --- cb Porcelain Basin, Primrose Spring pools are full. The one closest to the bw is bursting to 2', other one closest to the berm bursting to 1', One furthest north has some weak bursting
36577 27 Aug 2024 @ 1821 --- cb tree island Geyser in Porcelain basin is NOT active
36460 18 Aug 2024 @ 1130 --- Janet Jones Trees have been dying next to Mimulus Pools over at West Thumb this year - on this visit one small tree has mud on its base and the hole next to it was acting as a fumarole.
36458 18 Aug 2024 @ 1029 --- Janet Jones The orange spring north of Thumb Paint Pots sounds an awful lot like Dragon's Mouth Spring - booming from deep within the crater. Mud was sloshing up into view on August 4, 2024, but on this visit, only a couple of small splashes could be seen. The vents near it that opened up a few years back also are connected and send out sounds. Water levels in the neighboring spring still has grass growing in what water is left in the crater. Thumb Paint Pots also have lower water levels.
36341 09 Aug 2024 @ 1815 --- cb Tree Island Geyser in Norris Porcelain basin is not active at this time. Reports are it hasn't been seen erupting in the past few weeks.
36275 04 Aug 2024 @ 1331 --- Janet Jones The orange pool north of Thumb Paint Pots is no longer full of water, but splashing up mud and making lots of thumping slurpy noises. The water level in the Thumb Paint Pots area overall has dropped.
36179 30 Jul 2024 @ 1641 --- cb tree island Geyser is not active at this time. still just steaming @ 1740. no visable water in its pool as viewed from the museum.
36165 29 Jul 2024 @ 1317 --- cb Tree Island Geyser in Porcelain basin is quiet and not erupting
36029 22 Jul 2024 @ 0800 --- rayceanderson Caldera Chronicles article talking about a small hydrothermal explosion on Porcelain Terrace at Norris. https://www.usgs.gov/observatories/yvo/news/a-small-hydrothermal-explosion-norris-geyser-basin
35862 12 Jul 2024 @ 1015 --- ypcaribou Semi-Centennial Geyser. Time approximate. "Boom truck was there along with HK Construction, lots of NPS including LE and maintenance, and HAZMAT. Looked like they were having a safety and plan of attack meeting and were getting ready to at least close one lane. Car is completely submerged."
35861 11 Jul 2024 @ 1040 --- ypcaribou Time approximate. Vehicle left road and ended up in Semi-Centennial Geyser. The vehicle sank, is fully submerged, and will sit there until 7-12 when extraction with a crane will be attempted. Geyser runoff diverted to protect Obsidian Creek. (5 occupants of car did survive and got out but their condition is unknown at this time.)
35651 30 Jun 2024 @ 1845 --- Janet Jones Three-lobed Spring at West Thumb had no microbe mats floating at around 11:00 this morning, but by this evening had large mats that had risen and were floating on the surface and bubbles rising in all three lobes.
35561 25 Jun 2024 @ 1709 --- K.Cooper Frying pan hole NW of Scissors spring deeper - both vents now pooling water about a foot below the surface. Splashing consistently to the surface. Still getting stronger
35536 24 Jun 2024 @ 1930 --- Craigmon99 Thumb Geyser - boiling semi vigorously from thumb part
35535 24 Jun 2024 @ 1917 --- Craigmon99 Feature in front of surging spring and next to boardwalk has been boiling vigorously all day. Murky light brown water. Smells of dead bacteria
35531 24 Jun 2024 @ 1826 --- Craigmon99 Percolating Spring has been bursting up to 2 feet high all day
35510 24 Jun 2024 @ 0706 --- Craigmon99 Blue Funnel Pool Water to lowest inner tube. Semi-vigorous bubbling from back vent
35505 24 Jun 2024 @ 0645 --- K.Cooper unng frying pan NW of Copper Kettle continues to deepen: now blooping 3in boils
35475 23 Jun 2024 @ 1604 --- Craigmon99 Newly active frying pan on other side of boardwalk of scissors spring has deepened substantially and is pooling water at the bottom with occasional spritzing
35449 22 Jun 2024 @ 1613 --- Craigmon99 Gurgling heard and water seen from 2 features on the other side of the boardwalk as economic.
35399 21 Jun 2024 @ 0835 --- K.Cooper Frying pan hole on the right side of the bw about 90% of the way walking from Copper Kettle to Scissors spring continues to frying pan - saw a jet of water above the surface that chipped off some of the bridge
35209 14 Jun 2024 @ 1555 14 Jun 2024 @ 1559 Geyser Guy700 Clearwater Springs: Gently roiling on most springs. Small sizzling basin can be heard from road.
35226 14 Jun 2024 @ 1524 --- JSJ Pair Geyser (= RCN database name) in the southwestern Kaleidoscope Group (Lower Geyser Basin); vent is located at 44° 33' 15.35" North latitude, 110° 48' 48.74" West longitude. Blipping at 1524. Think I saw other minor activity this afternoon as well (Clepsydra steam was often obscuring).
35183 13 Jun 2024 @ 1722 --- K.Cooper Have not seen unng between Borah peak and dragon "Little hucker" over the past few Beehive waits
35068 10 Jun 2024 @ 0920 10 Jun 2024 @ 1212 SantaFe108 "Tree Island Geyser" was not in eruption during any point in my sit.
35073 10 Jun 2024 @ 0929 --- SantaFe108 Lava Pool spouter is active with full water. Small spring beyond Swiss Cheese Pool in Primrose Springs is erupting to ~1 ft.
34935 06 Jun 2024 @ 1913 06 Jun 2024 @ 2040 SantaFe108 Compiling all my observations here. UNNG between Dragon and Borah Peak "Little Hucker" at: 1913, duration: ~30s, height: 2ft 1924, duration: 33s, height: 2ft 1935, duration: 29s, height: ≥1.5ft 1946, duration: 32s, height: 2.5ft 1958, duration: 34s, height: 3ft 2008, duration: 28s, height: 3ft 2018, duration: 27s, height: 2.5ft 2028, duration: 33s, height: 2.5ft 2040, duration: 32s, height: 3ft Intervals are approx 11m. Abandoned 2040.
34937 06 Jun 2024 @ 1955 --- JarnoO Some information regarding Little Hucker (UNNG between Borah Peak and Dragon) I can gather from satellite imagery: From Google Earth (imagery date September 2023), it is located at 44.463113°, -110.829763° and shows up as a hole surrounded by a white patch in Dragon's runoff.
Imagery from September 2020 (January 2022 is unusable) shows just a white streak in Dragon's runoff channel and no obvious hole. Imagery from July 2017 is unclear, but doesn't show a hole at this location; there is a hole ±3 meters (±9 feet) N of it. This hole, however, was overrun by Dragon's runoff between July 2017 and September 2020, but, upon closer inspection and contrary to what was stated here earlier, remains recognizable in later imagery.
July 2016's imagery shows the situation before Dragon's runoff relocation clearer, with June 2016 imagery being the clearest. In both cases, there's a dark patch (which might be the same as Little Hucker) south of it, very near the coordinates stated above. August 2015 imagery also shows the hole and the dark patch, as do April 2015, June 2013, August 2010 and July 2010 imagery. Any imagery before that, though, is simply unusable as (commercial/public) satellite technology wasn't advanced enough to provide detailed imagery.
As a side note, the June 2016 imagery is also what's shown on Google Maps, 8 years out of date by now (it even shows Dragon's runoff heading west rather than south!).
34948 06 Jun 2024 @ 1229 06 Jun 2024 @ 1546 JSJ [Correction: not Tonsils Spring - apparently an unnamed spring/geyser west of Tonsils Spring; see feature at 44 degrees, 32' 25.76" North & 110 degrees, 48' 17.44" West on the September 2023 satellite photo on Google Earth]. Tonsils Spring in the Tangled Geysers Group (Lower Geyser Basin). 1229: drained (water is out-of-sight). 1239: water visible again. 1246: water higher. 1257: full pool / basin. 1404: water level low, but still visible. 1410: water out-of-sight. 1416: still empty. 1430: water level has risen, but basin is not full yet. 1443: basin appears full again. 1504: water level is lower, but still visible. 1509: water is out-of-sight. 1527: still empty. 1532: water level has risen, but basin is not full yet. 1546: basin appears full.
34940 06 Jun 2024 @ 1126 --- JSJ Twin Butte Vista Spring (White Creek Group, Lower Geyser Basin) - visible low spouting.
34768 30 May 2024 @ 1238 --- Graham Norris feature between SB bridge and Echinus that was erupting last year is cool and inactive.
34750 29 May 2024 @ 0938 --- cb Tree island Geyser in Norris Porcelain basin is not active at this time
34701 26 May 2024 @ 0819 --- ypcaribou Hole in path near BHC has gotten larger. Maybe 6' by 5'. Triangular with one point toward Steamboat. Audible gurgling deep inside.
34628 21 May 2024 @ 0424 --- JarnoO (wc) Large plume appeared in the Grotto - Fan and Mortar region, which also includes GNT and CLC (I guess that makes for a morning stroll...) but excludes Riverside, Grand and Artemisia. The large part of the plume (which spanned from its origin to out of frame near Castle) sustained until about 0450, after which it significantly declined. I think a Grotto start and a Rocket major can be ruled out due to the duration (Grotto start would just be a short burst of steam followed by steady steam, am not aware of a Rocket lasting any longer than 15m, let alone 20). In any case I'm hesitant to put it on a specific remaining candidate, as each one is more unlikely than the other.
34463 05 May 2024 @ 1850 --- SantaFe108 Gibbon Meadows geyser not erupting, and not a lick of steam from its area.
34324 24 Apr 2024 @ 0900 --- DanS Gibbon Meadow Geyser - only a tiny amount of steam this cool morning. Not erupting.
34307 21 Apr 2024 @ 1710 --- SantaFe108 Gibbon Meadows Geyser is steaming but not erupting.
34226 19 Apr 2024 @ 2030 --- SantaFe108 Gibbon Meadows Geyser steaming and not erupting.
34036 15 Feb 2024 @ 1450 --- aferrara East Chinese Spring: Energetically boiling and thumping. Similar force and volume to good Doublet Pool thumps. Boiling 2' @ 1453.
33972 04 Feb 2024 @ 1504 --- aferrara Feature approx across boardwalk from Scissor Spring with standing, boiling water
33955 30 Jan 2024 @ 1147 --- aferrara persistent spring energetically boiling. two new to me small sputs 2' NE of it boiling as well. STRONG fish odor.
29056 22 Oct 2023 @ 1454 --- SantaFe108 Lava Pool's water level is out of sight viewing from Hurricane Vent. Spouter on the N edge forcing steam at variable volume.
29163 22 Oct 2023 @ 1310 --- SantaFe108 A member of the Porcelain Springs NE of Pinwheel and NW of Blue, named "Island Geyser" (sometimes referred to as "Tree Island") powerfully bursting to 25' tall. Around 1430ish water color became light brown and then was clear again by 1500.
28876 19 Oct 2023 @ 1148 --- DanS Black Hermit Caldron- large dark boils on East side of pool.
28828 14 Oct 2023 @ 1427 --- MAB Gibbon Meadows geyser: from a neighbors FB post steam visible but I couldn't see a clear column of water - photo time stamp was 1427
28725 09 Oct 2023 @ 1330 --- cb Norris back basin>Root pool is also VERY high/full! Highest water level I've seen since 2019. Both pools are connected in the narrow section of the feature, color is a milky green & it had a very weak boil over the vents in each pool.
28645 05 Oct 2023 @ 1421 --- cb Nuphar Lake is still incredibly high, lime green and has thermal water flowing into it from features below where the old lunch station used to rest. The seeps from it and into Porcelain basin are not active .
28389 21 Sep 2023 @ 1238 21 Sep 2023 @ 1241 Micah Kipple A couple above-ground splashes from the feature to the north of Rusty and borehole Y8.
28372 20 Sep 2023 @ 0919 --- Micah Kipple The feature mentioned in my previous note has now briefly paused before returning to water phase. With energetic bursting 1-4 feet high. There is an interesting lack of chugging like I observed when I first arrived on the constant bench.
28371 20 Sep 2023 @ 0916 --- Micah Kipple A feature that has been erupting with a similar style to Whirligig's rooster tail vent about 50 feet to the right of Pinto from the bench right at the base of the hillside suddenly switched to a loud roaring steam phase at this time.
28301 17 Sep 2023 @ 1223 --- SantaFe108 Gibbon Meadows geyser Not ie, steaming quietly.
28282 16 Sep 2023 @ 1540 --- SantaFe108 Semi-Centenniel Geyser Still a lighter green color as last reported.
28217 11 Sep 2023 @ 1245 11 Sep 2023 @ 1330 CP New Imperial: eruptions from 1 to 6 minutes in duration, with pauses of 20 to 30 seconds between.
28125 08 Sep 2023 @ 1110 --- Graham Halfway Spring on Seven Mile Hole trail is overflowing.
27670 18 Aug 2023 @ 1650 --- bbev Semi-centenial: pool is a splitpea soup green, where normally l have seen it more blackish brown.
27571 13 Aug 2023 @ 1855 --- minissa I think this is the feature Scott calls Old Surprise Spring. It has been erupting every 10-12 minutes during our Fountain sit, but you have to judge more from the steam cloud because from the overlook it's over a small shoulder of land and it looks like the formation is a deep bowl.
27550 12 Aug 2023 @ 1411 --- JSJ LKNN001 (= RCN database designation) in the Kaleidoscope Group, Lower Geyser Basin; = 1B/vent 1B of Wolf & Paperiello, 1989 (Report on the Kaleidoscope & Sprinkler Groups, pp. 2, 7-8); vent is located 7 meters north-northeast of Kaleidoscope Geyser & 9 meters south-southeast of the center of Drain Geyser; UNNG's vent is at 44° 33' 16.05" North latitude, 110° 48' 47.58" West longitude. I suspect this vent is the same as "Kaleidoscope’s Indicator Geyser". Blipping / low spouting.
27548 12 Aug 2023 @ 1345 --- JSJ LKNN002 - unnamed geyser in the Kaleidoscope Group, Lower Geyser Basin. Located southeast of Three Vent Geyser & southwest of Kaleidoscope Geyser. Entire basin is water-filled; orange-floored with a dark green vent area. Receiving runoff from Kaleidoscope Geyser eruptions.
27536 11 Aug 2023 @ 1336 --- JSJ Broken Egg Spring - in light overflow & gently bubbling.
27498 10 Aug 2023 @ 1510 --- minissa Purple Pools: North boiling intermittently 1-2 feet high from what looks like a low pool {binoculars from between Oblong and Giant}; likewise East. South is periodically sending up a wide steam cloud but unable to see any splashing. Just sayin'...
27304 28 Jul 2023 @ 2100 --- SantaFe108 Two vents in the NBK-3 area spouting ~1ft high.
27266 27 Jul 2023 @ 1615 27 Jul 2023 @ 1650 SantaFe108 Snowglobes: No eruptions observed during this time. Snowglobe #1 and #2 have merged to become a single larger pool.
26952 08 Jul 2023 @ 2000 08 Jul 2023 @ 2037 nails Feature erupting to about 1 foot, durations about 1 minute, intervals about 2 minutes. Located on left side ( looking upstream from bridge) of Tantalus Creek just across the little trees from Corporal.
26914 08 Jul 2023 @ 1125 08 Jul 2023 @ 1225 Janet Jones I thought "Waterfall Geyser" at West Thumb was in here - did someone give it a number? 3/4 full of blue, opaque water. Some bubbles rising in it. Also, "Dancing Geyser" continues to be full and blue and overflowing with microbes growing in the overflow channel. Thumb Geyser was half full, blue opaque water with orange microbes around the edges. The UTF behind Thumb Geyser that has been active for quite some time was splashing. And, I'll add in Percolating Spring here as well since it's not yet listed: No water at all - vent is still full of gravel (amazingly so - really wonder what happened there) Oil Slick is also probably not in here - no water, also no water in Ephedra or Perforated. Lakeside Spring had heavier than normal overflow. Bluebell Pool and Seismograph Pool are also still well below overflow.
26880 07 Jul 2023 @ 0833 --- Tara Gibbon Meadows geyser erupting to 5-10'
26807 03 Jul 2023 @ 1114 --- bbev Gibbon meadow feature is off. 1300 off.
26791 02 Jul 2023 @ 0852 --- bbev Gibbon Meadow feature off, no water, little steam 1057, barely erupting, maybe 1-2' from both vents, can only see water with binoculars.
26776 01 Jul 2023 @ 1146 --- bbev Gibbon Meadow spouter. No steam on a warm day and no water to be seen. Have noticed that the activity has been decreasing over the past week. This is first time l have driven by and not seen any water since l first noticed it erupting on June 12.
26629 23 Jun 2023 @ 1130 --- bbev Spouter in Gibbon meadow continues. Play is 3-5 feet at this time. I have observed some slightly stronger play on occasion during my daily trek to Madison from Norris.
26488 20 Jun 2023 @ 0810 20 Jun 2023 @ 0813 aferrara Small crack ~10' SE of Jagged sputtering 1-3" tall.
26473 19 Jun 2023 @ 1712 --- ypcaribou Spouter at far N west end of Gibbon Meadows as seen while driving NB... "Speaking of Gibbon Meadows, that thing is steaming but definitely not throwing water like it was last week."
26481 19 Jun 2023 @ 1400 --- JSJ Small, unnamed feature 22 meters southwest of Jagged Spring (Black Sand Basin, Upper Geyser Basin). Vent is at 44° 27' 43.08" North latitude, 110° 51' 13.93" West longitude. Perpetual spouting - low to very low splashing.
26468 19 Jun 2023 @ 1330 --- bbev Gibbon Mdw. Geyser N of Sylvan Sprg. Very little steam and no water seen in brief, 5 min observation.
26448 18 Jun 2023 @ 1531 --- Graham Mud Volcano Dragons Mouth Spring has cleared the rocks that fell and blocked the entrance. It is now sending nice waves out of its mouth. Not sure when it cleared out?
26393 17 Jun 2023 @ 0806 --- Graham Snow Globe close to the boardwalk appears less active in 5 eruptions observed, splashed weakly in 2 of them. Second snowglobe erupting about 2 feet.
26378 16 Jun 2023 @ 1907 --- Craigmon99 Pool across from CGG-6 looks hotter than when I first arrived.
26385 16 Jun 2023 @ 1613 --- JSJ Small feature in Flood Group, just above the Firehole River's western bank, about 69 meters west-northwest of Flood Geyser, located at 44° 31' 15.65" North latitude, 110° 49' 46.75" West longitude. Slightly intermittent spraying and spritzing from a sublinear vent.
26384 16 Jun 2023 @ 1422 16 Jun 2023 @ 1427 JSJ LKNN001 (RCN database designation) - a geyser in the Kaleidoscope Group (possibly the same feature as "Kaleidoscope's Indicator Geyser"), Lower Geyser Basin; = UNNG 1B/vent 1B of Wolf & Paperiello, 1989 (Report on the Kaleidoscope & Sprinkler Groups, pp. 2, 7-8); vent is located 7 meters north-northeast of Kaleidoscope Geyser & 9 meters south-southeast of the center of Drain Geyser; vent is at 44° 33' 16.05" North latitude, 110° 48' 47.58" West longitude. Occasional low splashing at 1422; frequent low splashing from 1425 to 1427. No actual eruptions seen as in some previous years.
