Comments:Water phase 25-30 min max height 5-6 times the height of the trees. Interval 147 days 21 hours 33 ± 5 min

From Martinez (1978) report: "Steamboat had its second eruption of the year on August 23, beginning at about 8:03am. It was observed in the water phase by a total of four people: NPS maintenance worker Helen Wolfe, NPS naturalist Drew Thate, graduate researcher Dave Phelps, and NPS protective Bob Carnes. It was also seen from the top of Mount Holmes by the lookout, and by the driver of a Yellowstone Park Company bus on Blanding Hill travelling [sic] from Canyon to Norris (the driver's first name was Bruce). The eruption was something of a surprise to the naturalists so the height was not measured. Witnesses eyeballed the column to be 6 or 7 times the height of the surrounding trees, approximately equivalent to 90 to 130 meters...The duration of the water phase was estimated to be 25 to 30 minutes long. The steam phase lasted the rest of the day but had diminished considerably by noon, and gradually decreased in strength as the afternoon wore on."
