Per Ralph Taylor in the Oct 1998 Sput, this was the first eruption since 1975. "Since the summer of 1997, Twin has become much hotter, and has been boiling from the north vent since some time in 1997. During this activity the south vent has acted as a drain. The temperature in the north vent has been around 203 degrees F. for all of the summer of 1998. The question was 'how can it be that hot and not erupt?' Well, it couldn’t. On Sunday, 23 August, 1998 Twin Geyser reactivated. The initial eruption was seen by Don Unser, the sub district ranger. He noted the time as 10:33ie, and estimated the duration as 4 minutes. He reported the water as 'over the pine trees north of Twin.'”
